Duop Thomas Reath is a South Sudanese-Australian professional basketball player who most recently played in the National Basketball Association (NBA) for the Portland Trail Blazers. Early Life and Background

Duop Thomas Reath was born on 26 June 1996 in Waat, in what is now Jonglei State, South Sudan. At the age of nine, he moved with his parents and six siblings to Brisbane, Australia, eventually settling in Perth, where he attended Girrawheen Senior High School. Reath is the oldest of seven children.

During his childhood in Australia, Reath first played soccer and dreamed of representing the Socceroos. A significant growth spurt during year 10 redirected his athletic path toward basketball, where his size quickly became an advantage. He also played seven games for the Kalamunda Eastern Suns of the State Basketball League during the 2014 season, gaining early competitive experience.

Path to Basketball

Reath began his college career at Lee College in Baytown, Texas, playing for the Runnin’ Rebels from 2014 to 2016. As a freshman in 2014–15, he averaged 6.9 points and 5.4 rebounds per game, then emerged as a sophomore with 14.6 points and 8.4 rebounds per game in 2015–16.

In 2016, Reath transferred to LSU, joining the Tigers of the Southeastern Conference (SEC). He appeared in 31 games as a junior in 2016–17, averaging 12.0 points, 6.7 rebounds and 0.8 assists, and was named SEC Player of the Week in the first week. He followed that with a senior season in 2017–18 in which he averaged 12.6 points and 5.3 rebounds, scored a career-high 31 points against Vanderbilt on 20 January 2018, and was again named SEC Player of the Week. After going undrafted in the 2018 NBA draft, Reath signed with the Dallas Mavericks for the 2018 NBA Summer League.

Early Career (2018–2021)

On 1 August 2018, Reath signed a three-year contract with the Serbian team FMP, beginning his professional career in the Adriatic League. In July 2019, he joined the Brooklyn Nets for the 2019 NBA Summer League to showcase his skills. On 1 August 2020, he signed with the Serbian club Crvena zvezda for the 2020–21 season, where he won both the Adriatic League championship and the Serbian League championship in 2021.

Illawarra Hawks and Qingdao Eagles (2021–2023)

On 19 June 2021, Reath returned to Australia, signing with the Illawarra Hawks of the National Basketball League for the 2021–22 season. He then joined the Phoenix Suns for the 2022 NBA Summer League. Moving to Asia, Reath signed with the Qingdao Eagles of the Chinese Basketball Association for 2022–23, averaging 18.2 points, 7.8 rebounds, 1.2 steals and 2.0 blocks across 39 appearances.

Portland Trail Blazers Era (2023–2026)

On 30 June 2023, Reath joined the Portland Trail Blazers for the 2023 NBA Summer League. Following the 2023 FIBA World Cup, he signed a one-year deal on 2 October but was waived on 21 October, then re-signed three days later on a two-way contract. Reath made his NBA debut on 12 November against the Los Angeles Lakers, scoring 11 points with three made three-pointers. On 26 December 2023, he posted a career-high 25 points with nine rebounds in a 130–113 win over the Sacramento Kings, and on 16 February 2024 he signed a standard contract with the Trail Blazers.
