Utah Jazz guard Vince Williams Jr. will miss the remainder of the season after an MRI on Tuesday confirmed a torn ACL in his left knee, according to ESPN. The injury occurred during Monday’s game against the Houston Rockets, where Williams Jr. collided with Houston forward Tari Eason early in the second quarter at the Rockets’ home court.
Details of the Injury Incident During Rockets-Jazz Game
The injury took place as both players sprinted down the court on a fast break, with Eason delivering a hip-check that caused Williams’ knee to bend unnaturally as he fell out of bounds near the Utah bench. Jazz head coach Will Hardy criticized the nature of the contact after the game, calling the play unacceptable. Williams, 25, had played just eight minutes before leaving the game with one point, three rebounds, one assist, and one steal, eventually exiting the arena on crutches.
Reactions from Players Involved in the Incident
After the game, Tari Eason visited the Jazz locker room to check on Williams and expressed regret over the injury.
“I’ve known Vince for a little bit and he’s just a really good dude, hard-working dude,”
Eason said.
“It was just respect. I’ve got a lot of respect for him, and I know it’s his contract year … I didn’t intend on doing anything. My intentions are always just to play hard. So I went to go holler and just check on him. Obviously nothing helps, but just tell him that I apologize. You know, nobody’s trying to hurt anybody.”
Jazz guard Keyonte George shared his sadness over the injury, describing the situation as unfortunate.
“Everybody’s gonna have their own opinion (about the play) but can’t really look into it too much,”
George stated.
“These plays, just running down the floor … just a freak accident, honestly.”
Williams’ Season Performance and Career Overview
This season, Williams appeared in six games for Utah following a February 3 trade from the Memphis Grizzlies, averaging 4.7 points, 3.2 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 14 minutes per game. Before joining Utah, Williams played 34 games for Memphis, including 12 starts, putting up averages of 8.0 points, 4.4 assists, and 4.0 rebounds in 21.6 minutes per game.

Since entering the NBA in the 2022-23 season, Williams has averaged 7.7 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 3.0 assists in 134 regular-season games, with 51 starts. The Grizzlies selected him in the second round of the 2022 NBA Draft out of VCU.
Impact and Future Prospects
The torn ACL is a significant setback for Williams and the Jazz, as the 25-year-old guard was expected to contribute as part of Utah’s rotation this season. Recovery from such an injury typically requires a lengthy rehabilitation period, meaning Williams will likely be sidelined for the rest of the year and possibly beyond. The injury also complicates Utah’s backcourt depth while putting a pause on Williams’ promising career trajectory after his recent trade from Memphis.
