The Green Bay Packers have not completely ruled out re-signing wide receiver Romeo Doubs, despite widespread expectations that he will move on this offseason. Although Doubs has been linked to trade possibilities since last year and openly hinted at a departure via a cryptic social media post, sources including ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler suggest conversations could still happen to explore a potential return.
Fowler noted,
“The Packers can try to re-sign free agent receiver Romeo Doubs and/or extend tight end Tucker Kraft, a 2027 free agent,”
adding,
“The door isn’t closed on Doubs in Green Bay. I’m expecting both sides to at least have some dialogue and see if a return makes sense.”
Doubs’ Perspective and Team’s Challenges in Decision-Making
At the recent Radio Row, Romeo Doubs acknowledged that staying with the Packers offers the best chance to win a Super Bowl, compared to other interested teams, while affirming his openness to a reunion. He also recognized the realities of the NFL as a business, reflecting the complexity of his decision.
Green Bay faces difficult roster and financial choices as it juggles investing in younger talent and managing salary cap constraints. The team used a first-round pick on Matthew Golden last season, who showed promising potential with a strong playoff performance that included 84 yards and a touchdown on four receptions.
Balancing Emerging Talent with Key Contributors
Christian Watson, another cornerstone in the Packers’ receiving corps, is expected to receive a multi-year contract extension after an impressive return from injury, recording 611 yards and six touchdowns in just 10 games. Adding to the depth are key players like Jayden Reed, Tucker Kraft, Dontayvion Wicks, and recent third-round pick Savion Williams, all factors weighing into how the team allocates resources.
Doubs, meanwhile, is projected to command a market value of around $12 million annually, possibly more if bidding intensifies. His 55 catches for 724 yards and six touchdowns led the team this past season, and he excelling in the playoffs with 124 yards and a touchdown in Chicago reinforced his importance to quarterback Jordan Love.
A Complex Decision Amid a Pivotal Offseason for the Packers
Despite Doubs’ significant production, the Packers must consider whether to keep him or shift focus to other receivers like Reed or Wicks as part of a broader reshaping of the receiving group. Jeremy Fowler’s cautious phrasing—“The door isn’t closed”—underscores that a Doubs reunion remains a possibility but not a certainty.
While speculation points toward a long-term deal elsewhere, potentially with teams such as the Miami Dolphins led by Jeff Hafley, Green Bay’s decision-making will be one of the many tough choices in the critical offseason ahead.
