Chris Kuper Joins Eagles as New Offensive Line Coach

Chris Kuper, previously the Minnesota Vikings offensive line coach, has been hired by the Philadelphia Eagles as their new offensive line coach, the NFL Network announced on Monday. Kuper’s appointment comes shortly after the Vikings decided not to renew his contract following four seasons in that role, marking a quick transition back into coaching for the former NFL player.

From Player to Coach: Kuper’s NFL Journey

Kuper spent his entire playing career with the Denver Broncos from 2006 to 2013, primarily as a right guard, starting 79 of 90 games during that period. After retiring in 2014 due to an injury sustained in 2011, Kuper began his coaching career in 2016, gaining experience with the Broncos and Miami Dolphins before joining the Vikings coaching staff under Kevin O’Connell in 2022.

The new Eagles offensive coordinator, Sean Mannion, previously played as a quarterback for the Vikings while Kuper was on their coaching staff, adding familiarity between the two in their new collaboration.

Kuper’s Background and Playing Career Highlights

A native of Anchorage, Alaska, Kuper was drafted in the fifth round of the 2006 NFL Draft by the Broncos, becoming the first University of North Dakota (UND) player drafted since Jim Kleinsasser in 1999. Standing 6-foot-3 and weighing just over 300 pounds, Kuper had chosen UND, a Division II school, over other opportunities such as Western Washington and Oregon, where he had only a walk-on offer.

During his college years, Kuper earned two North Central Conference Lineman of the Year awards. He was also named a three-time captain in Denver and was selected for the Pro Bowl in 2011, although he did not attend due to injury. His leadership and consistent performance over his eight-year NFL career made him a respected figure both on and off the field.

What Kuper’s Hiring Means for the Eagles’ Offensive Line

Bringing Chris Kuper to Philadelphia is expected to strengthen the Eagles’ offensive line unit. His combined experience as a former player and seasoned coach, along with his working relationship with Sean Mannion, positions him well to develop the team’s offensive front. As the Eagles prepare for upcoming seasons, Kuper’s expertise will likely play a key role in their offensive strategy and linemen development.
