The Seattle Seahawks secured a decisive 29-13 victory over the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LX on Sunday, a triumph that elevates the standing of everyone on the squad. Head coach Mike Macdonald pointed to this win as a pivotal moment for wide receiver Cooper Kupp, whose performance throughout the season and in the championship game has fueled conversations about his future Hall of Fame prospects.
In his inaugural season with the Seahawks, Kupp played a supporting role in the passing attack, recording 47 receptions for 593 yards and two touchdowns. Despite this secondary status, he played a critical role in the team’s Super Bowl win, and Macdonald believes Kupp’s career achievements collectively position him as a Hall of Fame-worthy player.

Selected in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft, Cooper Kupp spent the bulk of his career with the Los Angeles Rams, a direct rival of the Seahawks in the NFC West division. During his early years with the Rams, Kupp showed promise but was not widely regarded among the elite wide receivers in the league.
Kupp’s breakout came in 2021 when he delivered one of the most exceptional seasons by a wide receiver in NFL history. Aligning with quarterback Matthew Stafford, Kupp led the league with 145 catches, 1,947 receiving yards, and 16 touchdowns—a rare triple crown achievement. His stellar play earned him all-pro selections, a Pro Bowl nod, and the Super Bowl LVI MVP award.
Since that peak, Kupp has faced challenges with injuries and was eventually deemed expendable in Los Angeles after the rise of Puka Nacua. Joining the Seahawks this season, he played behind Jaxon Smith-Njigba in the pecking order but still led the team in receptions during the Super Bowl, catching six passes for 61 yards. While Macdonald firmly believes in Kupp’s Hall of Fame credentials, the broader debate remains unresolved. Kupp’s 2021 campaign stands out as a historic achievement, but outside of that season, his career statistics and accolades are less definitive. His two Super Bowl championships further bolster his case, yet many question whether one dominant year can secure entry into the Hall.
The example of Bill Belichick, the former Patriots head coach who was controversially overlooked for Hall of Fame induction, illustrates how no candidate is guaranteed a spot. At present, unless Kupp replicates the extraordinary production of his 2021 season or adds further achievements, his status as a certain Hall of Famer could remain debated if his career concluded today.
Kupp’s journey with the Seahawks adds new chapters to his professional story, and his performance on the NFL’s premier stage suggests continued opportunities to build upon his legacy.
