Denver Broncos left tackle Garett Bolles expressed the belief that the team’s chances of reaching the Super Bowl would have been significantly better if quarterback Bo Nix had been healthy for the AFC Championship game against the New England Patriots. Speaking on the NFL Daily podcast with Gregg Rosenthal and Jourdan Rodrigue, Bolles emphasized how crucial Nix’s presence was to the team’s success throughout the season.
Bo Nix’s leadership and skill crucial to Broncos’ success
Bolles described the injury to Nix as a devastating blow, highlighting the quarterback’s leadership and unique talents.
“Bo took us there. He had a phenomenal year and when you lose a guy like that that’s a leader of your group, not just the O-line, but your team. His confidence level, his swagger, his ability to run and see the open field in different ways — it’s a tough piece to lose,”
Bolles stated via NFL.com.
Replacement quarterback Jarrett Stidham stepped in under challenging circumstances
After Nix fractured his ankle in overtime during the divisional round victory over the Buffalo Bills, the Broncos turned to Jarrett Stidham for the AFC Championship game. Stidham managed a strong opening drive that put Denver ahead 7-0. However, the Broncos ultimately fell 10-7 in a closely contested game. Despite a costly fumble that allowed the Patriots to score, Bolles defended Stidham’s performance.
“Stiddy did everything he can. Love that dude; I’m so grateful he came in and handled the business he did, but it would be a different ball game if we had our quarterback,”
Bolles said.
Outlook for Nix’s recovery and the Broncos’ future ambitions
Despite the setback, Bo Nix’s recovery is progressing positively, and he is expected to be fully ready for the offseason and upcoming training. Bolles voiced the sentiment shared by many in Broncos Country, underscoring the difference Nix’s presence could have made in their playoff run.
“I’ll tell you this: If we had Bo Nix, it would be a different ballgame,”
Bolles added.
With the team’s determination undiminished, Nix, Bolles, and the Broncos are preparing to come back stronger next season, aiming for another chance at the Super Bowl despite the challenges they faced this year.
