Packers Promote Getsy: Major Boost for Jordan Love’s Growth

The Green Bay Packers have appointed Luke Getsy as their new quarterbacks coach after Sean Mannion left to become the offensive coordinator for the Philadelphia Eagles. This change was announced by NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero on Wednesday, marking an internal promotion that aligns with the team’s continuity strategy.

Getsy, who returned to Green Bay last year as a senior offensive assistant after previous roles with Chicago and Las Vegas, now steps into the quarterbacks coach position. The Packers also interviewed Arizona Cardinals passing game specialist Connor Senger, likely to fulfill the Rooney Rule, but ultimately decided to promote from within to maintain consistency.

Luke Getsy’s Established Rapport with Jordan Love Could Elevate the Quarterback’s Performance

Getsy shares a strong professional connection with Packers quarterback Jordan Love. He first served as Love’s quarterback coach during the player’s rookie season in 2021, laying the groundwork for Love’s progression despite being Aaron Rodgers’ backup at the time. Getsy had been the Packers’ quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator from 2019 through 2021, a period when Rodgers earned consecutive MVP awards.

Love, who started one game in his rookie year and performed well with 190 passing yards and one touchdown against the Kansas City Chiefs, has steadily advanced in the league. While his passing yards and touchdowns dipped slightly last season, he achieved career-best marks by limiting interceptions to six and completing 66.3 percent of his passes.

Getsy’s Extensive Coaching Experience Bolsters His Ability to Focus on Quarterback Development

Luke Getsy’s coaching career with the Packers dates back to 2014, when Mike McCarthy hired him as an offensive quality control coach. He was promoted to wide receivers coach in 2016 before a brief departure to Mississippi State as offensive coordinator in 2018. Returning to Green Bay in 2019, Getsy continued refining his expertise in quarterback and passing game coaching.

After the 2021 season, Getsy became the offensive coordinator for the Chicago Bears under Matt Eberflus, but his tenure ended when Eberflus was dismissed following the 2023 season. He then took on the same role with the Las Vegas Raiders in 2024 but was released after the team’s offense struggled through a 2-7 start. Soon after, Packers head coach Matt LaFleur brought Getsy back as a defensive consultant late in the 2024 season, then promoted him to senior offensive assistant for 2025.

Returns to Quarterbacks Coach Role Could Reset Getsy’s Career and Foster Love’s MVP Potential

Assuming the quarterbacks coach position offers Getsy a fresh start and a critical opportunity to enhance Jordan Love’s game. If Getsy can help Love reach elite status and become a serious MVP candidate, it could revive Getsy’s prospects for future offensive coordinator positions. Along with Love, Getsy will also work with backup quarterbacks Desmond Ridder and Kyle McCord, providing vital depth and support for the Packers’ quarterback group.
