Kansas City Chiefs cornerback Jaylen Watson is making his dissatisfaction clear this offseason, not because of his upcoming free agency, but due to his Madden rating. Despite his on-field achievements, Watson remains frustrated that the popular video game has maintained his rating at a modest 79.
Speaking with NFL insider Jordan Schultz from Fox Sports, Watson expressed his disappointment.
“I don’t really play Madden because my rating has been the same since I was a rookie,”
he said.
“They had a running back as a one and I’m getting burnt by the running back. I’m like ‘What is going on?’ And I stopped playing.”
Although Watson improved from a 73 rating during his rookie year, he has yet to surpass the 80 mark, which he feels does not reflect his current abilities.
Rise of Watson from Rookie to Key Defensive Player
Under head coach Andy Reid, Watson has steadily evolved into a valuable contributor for the Chiefs. His journey started as a junior college prospect from Ventura College, then a seventh-round pick from Washington State, and now a two-time Super Bowl champion.
Watson recently produced career-best statistics, including 15 regular season starts, 64 tackles, 42 solo tackles, three tackles for loss, and two interceptions. Standing 6-foot-2, he has also broken up six passes in his first four seasons, establishing himself as a reliable cornerback in a competitive league.

As Watson approaches his fifth NFL season, multiple teams could show interest in acquiring him. The Pittsburgh Steelers have emerged as a possible suitor, with analyst Yago Antunes from ClutchPoints noting,
“He’s long, he’s competitive at the catch point, and he has the temperament for press-man reps.”
Other teams facing cornerback needs may also consider Watson, including the Los Angeles Rams, Minnesota Vikings, Dallas Cowboys, and the Las Vegas Raiders. His performance and skill set position him as a desirable option for several franchises ahead of free agency.
