Omar Khan Sees Bright Future for Roman Wilson with Steelers

Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Roman Wilson has experienced a challenging start since being selected in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft. An injury limited him to only five snaps during his rookie season, and in his second year, Wilson was a healthy scratch for five games, including the team’s Wild Card Round playoff defeat.

During game time, Wilson managed to catch 12 passes for 166 yards and scored two touchdowns. Despite these modest numbers, Steelers general manager Omar Khan expressed optimism about Wilson’s future with the franchise at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis.

Omar Khan Expresses Confidence in Wilson’s Potential

Speaking at a podium session, Khan shared unwavering support for Wilson’s development as a valuable asset to the team.

“You guys have heard me talk about my belief in Roman. I think Roman’s a talented player and I expect him to contribute. I know the coaching staff is excited to work with him. And his rookie year, you know he got hurt and that was a little bit of a setback. And last year, the opportunities didn’t come I think like everybody would’ve liked, but I think he’s got a good future,”

Khan said.

The general manager suggested that several factors impacted Wilson’s second season performance but remains confident in improvement.

“Last year, different situations. You know, there were different things and there’s not one specific thing, but I’m confident you guys will see some good things from him this year.”

Wide Receiver Depth and Competition in Pittsburgh

The Steelers have struggled to find consistent production from their receiving corps over the past two seasons, making it a priority position this offseason. Head coach Mike McCarthy favors deploying multiple receivers on the field and maintaining a deep group, which could create an opportunity for Wilson to showcase his skills and gain a more significant role.

However, the path ahead is competitive, as the Steelers intend to add talent to the receiver room. Wilson will need to prove his capabilities during offseason workouts and training camp to earn a stronger spot on the roster and fulfill the promise envisioned when Pittsburgh drafted him.

Outlook for Roman Wilson and the Steelers’ Offense

With the backing of Omar Khan and a coaching staff eager to develop his potential, Roman Wilson is positioned to make strides in his third NFL season. If he can establish himself as a reliable contributor, it would provide a much-needed boost to the Steelers’ offense. As Pittsburgh aims to improve its receiver position, Wilson’s progress will be an important storyline as the team prepares for the coming season.
