Washington Commanders Cut Pro Bowl Center in Shocking Move

The Washington Commanders began their offseason roster adjustments on Thursday by releasing starting center Tyler Biadasz, as part of their efforts to create additional salary cap space. This decision reflects the team’s strategy as they prepare to add new talent during the upcoming offseason.

The release of Biadasz results in an $8.1 million dead cap charge while freeing up $2.88 million in cap room immediately. Alternatively, if the Commanders designate him as a post-June 1 cut, they could gain $8.2 million in cap space with a $2.7 million dead cap charge in 2025.

Biadasz’s Career and Free Agency Outlook

Tyler Biadasz, 28, will now join a sizable pool of free agents. Since signing a three-year, $30 million deal with Washington, he started all 31 games he played. Originally selected by the Dallas Cowboys as the 146th overall pick in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL Draft, Biadasz spent four seasons there before testing free agency.

A one-time Pro Bowler, Biadasz ranked 11th among centers according to Pro Football Focus’ 2025 grading. His proven experience and solid grading should attract interest from multiple teams seeking to strengthen their interior offensive line ahead of the new season.

Potential Teams and Future Considerations

Several franchises are actively looking for additions along their offensive line, including the Los Angeles Chargers, who lost center Bradley Bozeman to retirement. Being a native of Wisconsin and a former Badgers player, Biadasz could prefer to play closer to home, possibly drawing interest from the Minnesota Vikings. The Vikings may soon need to replace Ryan Kelly, who has faced multiple concussion-related challenges and might retire.

The Commanders’ decision highlights the difficult balance teams face managing salary caps while aiming to maintain a competitive roster. For Washington, this move opens possibilities to pursue new players as they navigate the offseason.

“I want to thank Tyler for his contributions to the Commanders organization. His professionalism and dedication on the field have been exemplary.”
