Roman Wilson Trains with Route God to Silence Doubters

Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Roman Wilson has been training with James Everett, famously known as the Route God, in Florida to sharpen his skills. The Route God, who has worked with notable Steelers like Diontae Johnson and George Pickens, is recognized for helping NFL players improve their route running and overall performance.

Wilson’s Struggles So Far and Team’s Confidence in His Potential

Wilson’s first two seasons have not met expectations, with injuries restricting his playing time. In 2025, he appeared in 13 games but only managed 12 receptions for 166 yards and two touchdowns, while his rookie year saw him participate in just one game due to injury setbacks. Despite this, Steelers General Manager Omar Khan remains optimistic about Wilson’s future contributions to the team.

That’s a good question. You guys have heard me talk about my beief in Roman,

Khan said during the NFL Combine.

I think Roman’s a talented player and I expect him to contribute. I know the coaching staff is excited to work with him, and his rookie year he got hurt, and that was a little bit of a setback and last year the opportunities didn’t com, I think, like everybody would like. But I think he’s got a good future.

– Omar Khan, Steelers General Manager

Wilson, drafted in the third round out of Michigan, was frequently a healthy scratch last season as quarterback Aaron Rodgers favored veteran receivers Adam Thielen and Marquez Valdes-Scantling in the lineup.

The first year obviously was the injuries. First year he got hurt, and I think at the end we were getting ready to start the window for him to practice and we got eliminated from the playoffs. And then last year, different situations, there were different things and there’s not one specific thing, but I’m confident you guys going to see some good things from him this year,

Khan elaborated. – Omar Khan, Steelers General Manager

Support from Teammates Highlights Wilson’s Work Ethic and Promise

While critics have labeled Wilson a bust due to his limited production, Steelers long snapper Christian Kuntz has spoken out about Wilson’s commitment and potential, emphasizing the hard work behind the scenes that fans may not see.

There are guys that aren’t producing that are developing on the team that no one’s heard of,

Kuntz said on his podcast.

One comes to mind now: Roman Wilson. People think the production wasn’t there the first two years — they’re calling him a bust. They don’t know that he’s working his ass off. I will — and I’ve continued to — back Roman because I see how he works, and I know it’s going to pay off. I believe in him.
