After Bo Nix suffered a fractured ankle during the overtime period of the Denver Broncos’ divisional-round victory over the Buffalo Bills, an unexpected supporter emerged: Russell Wilson, the former full-time starter for the Broncos. Wilson revealed his communication with Nix during a recent interview on the Bussin With The Boys podcast, hosted by former Tennessee Titans teammates Will Compton and Taylor Lewan.
I actually texted Bo [after] the game that he got hurt and then went and stayed in touch with him a little bit,
Wilson shared.
Wilson Expresses Genuine Support Without Resentment
Despite his own complicated season and some pointed remarks on social media regarding Sean Payton, Wilson made clear he harbors no jealousy toward Nix. The Broncos selected Nix just weeks after releasing Wilson in the 2024 offseason.
I don’t have any jealousy in my heart. That’s not my how I function,
Wilson explained.
It’s like, ‘Man, go shine, bro.’
Wilson also praised Nix’s performance, saying,
[Nix has] done an amazing job.
Bo Nix’s Impact and Wilson’s Uncertain Future
Nix has markedly succeeded where Wilson ultimately fell short, leading the Broncos back to the playoffs for the first time since Super Bowl 50. He also became only the second quarterback drafted by Denver to secure a playoff win, joining Tim Tebow, who achieved this in January 2012.
Meanwhile, Wilson has experienced a turbulent period with brief stints at the Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Giants following his release. After being benched early in the 2025 season by the Giants, his career trajectory remains uncertain, with the possibility that he may serve only as a bridge quarterback for another team in the near future.
