Packers Eye Top Jaire Alexander Replacement in 2026 Draft

The Green Bay Packers struggled to fill the void left by former cornerback Jaire Alexander throughout the 2025 season. After releasing Alexander in the spring, the team depended heavily on Keisean Nixon and Carrington Valentine, but the secondary remained inconsistent, undermining the defense’s overall effectiveness.

Following a major trade last summer that sent two first-round picks to acquire edge rusher Micah Parsons, the Packers are expected to shift focus toward reinforcing their cornerback position in the 2026 NFL Draft this spring.

Potential Breakout Candidates to Fill Cornerback Role

While Green Bay’s draft position does not include a first-round selection, general manager Brian Gutekunst still has an opportunity to acquire a player who can transform the secondary. Pro Football Focus analyst John Kosko highlighted Tennessee cornerback Colton Hood as an optimal second-round target for the Packers.

“Following Jaire Alexander’s release last offseason, The Packers are missing a true difference-maker at the cornerback position. Hood has the capabilities to be that caliber of player, as he finished 2025 with an 80.3 PFF coverage grade after transferring to Tennessee from Colorado.”

Hood stands six feet tall and weighs 195 pounds, providing a strong physical presence on the outside. Coming off a solid campaign that included one interception and 50 total tackles, he represents a promising option to bolster Green Bay’s secondary.

Draft Strategy Aimed at Protecting Defensive Investments

If Gutekunst successfully selects a talent like Hood in the second round, the Packers could substantially improve their defensive backfield. This upgrade would complement their significant investment in Micah Parsons and help prevent opposing offenses from exploiting weaknesses in coverage.

Strengthening the cornerback spot is crucial to ensuring the team’s defense can operate at a higher level in the upcoming seasons, potentially altering the trajectory of Green Bay’s defensive success moving forward.
