Tyler Biadasz has quickly moved on from his release by the Washington Commanders, signing a substantial three-year, $30 million contract with the Los Angeles Chargers, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. The former Pro Bowl center brings valuable experience to the Chargers’ offensive line ahead of the upcoming NFL season.
Career Background and Previous Teams
Biadasz began his NFL career after being drafted 146th overall in the 2020 NFL Draft by the Dallas Cowboys, where he played until 2023. He then spent two seasons with the Washington Commanders before they released him just over a week ago. During his time with these teams, Biadasz developed into a reliable center known for his solid performance on the field.
Strengthening the Chargers’ Offensive Line
Coming off a difficult season, Los Angeles’s offensive line was ranked near the bottom of the league, suffering from injuries and inconsistent play. Biadasz’s 70.7 Pro Football Focus (PFF) grade last season placed him 11th among 40 qualified centers, marking him as a promising addition. With the expected returns of All-Pro offensive tackle Rashawn Slater and Pro Bowl tackle Joe Alt, who missed significant time due to injury, the Chargers anticipate a major turnaround in their line’s effectiveness.
Slater was sidelined for the entire 2025 season after a torn patellar tendon, while Alt only appeared in six games last year due to persistent ankle issues. The return of these key players alongside Biadasz is expected to elevate the Chargers’ offensive front significantly.
Previous Offensive Line Challenges and Player Grades
Without Slater and Alt anchoring the line, the Chargers finished 30th out of 32 NFL teams in offensive line rankings last season. Even though Alt’s limited appearances yielded a strong 82.3 PFF grade and earned him a Pro Bowl selection, others struggled. Left guard Zion Johnson (57.0), center Bradley Bozeman (51.7), right tackle Trey Pipkins III (47.2), and right guard Mekhi Becton (35.7) all posted PFF grades below 60, highlighting the unit’s difficulties.
Team Performance and Playoff Aspirations
The Chargers have posted back-to-back 11-win seasons, a respectable achievement in the highly competitive NFL. Despite this success, Los Angeles has yet to advance beyond the wild card round in three playoff appearances over the past seven years. Strengthening the offensive line with Biadasz and the returning tackles could be a critical step toward deeper playoff runs and sustained postseason success.
