Eric Wilson Returns: Vikings Seal Multiyear Deal with Star LB

MINNEAPOLIS — The Minnesota Vikings have finalized a multiyear contract with linebacker Eric Wilson, ensuring his presence on their defense for the upcoming seasons. The agreement brings back Wilson following his standout performance last year, just as he was set to become an unrestricted free agent.

Wilson’s Breakout Season and Defensive Impact

At 31 years old, Eric Wilson delivered career-best statistics during the 2025 campaign. He recorded 6.5 sacks, surpassing his previous best of 3; accumulated 10 quarterback hits; forced 4 fumbles; and made 17 tackles for loss, more than double his previous high of 8 tackles for loss in 2020. His 108 tackles ranked second on the team, trailing only Blake Cashman, who led with 144 tackles. Wilson’s tackle count was his highest since 2020, when he had 121 stops.

Wilson became the fourth player since 1999, and first since Lavonte David in 2013, to post at least 115 total tackles, 17 tackles for loss and 6.0 sacks in a season,

according to the Vikings’ announcement.

Contributions Beyond Defense

Wilson’s influence extended beyond defensive duties, as he also made a meaningful impact on special teams. He contributed seven tackles and forced a fumble while playing in coverage units, demonstrating his versatility and value across multiple phases of the game.

Wilson’s Journey and Return to Minnesota

Wilson originally signed with the Vikings in 2017 as an undrafted free agent from Cincinnati and spent his first four professional seasons in Minnesota. Afterward, he played for the Philadelphia Eagles, Houston Texans, and Green Bay Packers before returning to the Vikings last season. This new deal solidifies a continuation of his career where it began, bolstering the Vikings’ linebacker corps with a veteran presence.

Significance of the Contract for the Vikings’ Defense

The re-signing of Eric Wilson is a critical move for the Vikings as they look to maintain defensive stability following his historic season. His combination of playmaking, experience, and leadership will help sustain the team’s competitiveness. With proven performers like Wilson and Blake Cashman anchoring the defense, the Vikings are positioned to build on their recent successes and aim for consistent defensive pressure moving forward.
