Kaden Elliss Returns to Saints on 3-Year $33M Deal

The New Orleans Saints have secured linebacker Kaden Elliss on a three-year contract worth $33 million, as reported by NFL Network. The deal includes $23 million guaranteed and a maximum value approaching $39 million, marking Elliss’ return to the franchise that drafted him in 2019.

Elliss, now 30 years old, originally entered the NFL after being selected in the seventh round of the 2019 draft by the Saints. After playing four seasons in New Orleans, he spent the past three years with the Atlanta Falcons before returning to the Saints, coinciding with longtime linebacker Demario Davis leaving for the New York Jets.

Performance and Versatility Key to Elliss’ Value

During his recent tenure with the Falcons, Elliss established himself as one of their most dependable players. In the 2025 season, he led Atlanta’s defense with 107 tackles from his inside linebacker position, along with 3.5 sacks, 10 tackles for loss, one interception, and six passes defended. He also served as a team captain, highlighting his leadership on and off the field.

Elliss’ ability to adapt was particularly notable under Falcons defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich, who frequently utilized him as a blitzer. Elliss excelled in this role, ranking fifth among NFL defenders for quarterback pressure rate at 17.6% among those with more than 150 pass-rush snaps, demonstrating his impact beyond traditional linebacker duties.

In 2024, Elliss led Atlanta with 151 tackles and contributed five sacks without missing a single game throughout his three seasons there. His consistency and durability added significant value to his profile ahead of his return to New Orleans.

Background and Family Ties in Football

Before his time with the Falcons, Elliss had made notable contributions during his last season with the Saints, recording a career-high seven sacks in 2022. His football pedigree runs deep as the son of former NFL defensive tackle Luther Elliss. Kaden is also part of a talented NFL family, with brothers Christian and Jonah currently playing for the New England Patriots and Denver Broncos, respectively.

Implications for the Saints’ Defense Going Forward

The addition of Elliss comes at a pivotal moment for New Orleans, following Demario Davis’s departure. Elliss’ proven versatility, leadership, and durability will play a crucial role in reinforcing the Saints’ linebacker corps. His ability to pressure quarterbacks and excel in varied defensive roles is expected to bolster New Orleans’ defensive strategies in upcoming seasons.
