Boston Bruins Rush Olympic Stars Back Amid Blizzard Delay

The Boston Bruins are preparing for a swift return of their key players following the 2026 Winter Olympics, as the United States and Canada prepare to compete for the Gold Medal on Sunday morning. Defenseman Charlie McAvoy and goaltender Jermey Swayman are expected to rejoin the team promptly at Warrior Ice Arena, while defenseman Henri Jokiharju and goalie Joonas Korpisalo recently secured the Bronze Medal with Finland. The Bruins face pressure to regroup quickly in order to resume their NHL season against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Thursday night.

With both goalies playing significant roles at the Olympics, the Bruins must ensure their readiness for the upcoming game, especially since they have seen limited ice time recently. Head coach Marco Sturm emphasized the urgency:

“Somehow, we have to make sure they’re going to get some reps in as much as we can, as early as we can. Because we need them. We need one of them, at least,”

he said.

“But again, I want to wait and see what happens and figure it out. See how everyone feels.”

Complicating this situation is a major blizzard forecasted to hit the Northeast starting Sunday night and likely lasting through Monday, possibly extending into Tuesday. This storm threatens to disrupt travel and practice schedules, hindering the Bruins’ plans to properly prepare upon the players’ return from the Olympics.

Pavel Zacha Returns to Practice, Rejoining Key Line

Pavel Zacha made a notable return to practice donning a red non-contact jersey after suffering a concussion last month in a game against the Philadelphia Flyers. Coach Sturm regards Zacha’s comeback as crucial, expecting him to play alongside Casey Mittlestadt and Viktor Arvidsson against the Blue Jackets. This line has served as the team’s shutdown unit while also contributing offensively.

“Very important,” Sturm commented.

“How they’ve been our shutdown line but also produce offensively. You can see it without (Zacha) in the lineup; we missed a little bit of faceoffs, power play. There are a lot of different areas where we kind of missed him. That’s why it’s so nice to have him out there fresh and healthy.”

Trade Deadline Approaches Amid Team Uncertainties

With the trade deadline only 12 days away, the Bruins face mounting uncertainty regarding their roster. Questions linger about how much longer Viktor Arvidsson will remain with the Black and Gold as rumors intensify alongside the Olympic break’s conclusion and the impending roster freeze lift. These developments add tension as March 6 at 3 p.m. draws closer, prompting both management and fans to anticipate possible roster changes in a critical stretch of the season.
