Wild Acquire Michael McCarron in Trade From Predators

The Minnesota Wild announced on Tuesday that they have obtained veteran center Michael McCarron from the Nashville Predators in exchange for a second-round draft pick in 2028. This move could be the beginning of a series of player changes ahead of the NHL trade deadline this Friday, as multiple teams showed interest in the experienced 30-year-old forward. McCarron has been enjoying a career season with Nashville, averaging 14 minutes and 30 seconds of ice time per game.

Wild’s Strategy Behind the Acquisition

The Wild value McCarron’s imposing presence, standing 6-foot-6 tall, along with his competitive style of play. They plan to utilize him effectively on their penalty kill unit. Additionally, McCarron brings skill in faceoffs, boasting a career win rate of 52.8%. Minnesota’s general manager, Bill Guerin, who led the United States to a gold medal at the 2026 Winter Olympics, is familiar with McCarron’s capabilities. A Michigan native, McCarron has represented USA Hockey at events including the 2025 World Championships, where Guerin also served as GM.

Playoff Ambitions and Further Moves

The Wild are preparing to face their Central Division adversaries, the Dallas Stars, in the upcoming playoff’s first round. Minnesota has not advanced beyond this stage since 2015 and is actively reinforcing its roster under Guerin’s leadership. In December, the team made a notable trade to add defenseman Quinn Hughes, aiming to enhance their championship chances.

Sources have indicated to ESPN that Minnesota is still pursuing New York Rangers center Vincent Trocheck. The Wild have submitted a trade proposal to the Rangers, but New York’s general manager, Chris Drury, is carefully considering different options.
