On August 16, the Phoenix Mercury will formally welcome Diana Taurasi into its Ring of Honor during a home game against the Portland Fire. Taurasi, a legendary figure in women’s basketball, is being recognized for her outstanding contributions to the Mercury and the sport overall.
A Storied Career Highlighted by Records and Championships
Diana Taurasi captured three WNBA titles with the Mercury and concluded her career as the league’s all-time leading scorer, surpassing 10,000 points. Beyond the WNBA, she made history as the only athlete in any team sport to win six Olympic gold medals, further solidifying her legacy.
Mat Ishbia, owner of both the Phoenix Mercury and Phoenix Suns, praised Taurasi’s impact:

Taurasi’s No. 3 jersey will be retired, placing her alongside notable Mercury greats such as Cheryl Miller, Jennifer Gillom (22), Bridget Pettis (32), Penny Taylor (13), and Michele Timms (7) in the team’s prestigious Ring of Honor. Taurasi was the first overall pick in the 2004 WNBA draft by Phoenix and dedicated two decades to the franchise.
