Early Life and Background

Boris Katchouk was born on June 18, 1998, in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. He is the son of Viktor Katchouk and Yelena Tumanova, who moved from Russia to Canada in 1992. Katchouk grew up alongside his two older brothers, Alex and Yuri. His mother, Yelena, represented the Soviet Union in speed skating at the 1988 Winter Olympics. The family initially settled in Montreal before relocating to Waterloo, Ontario. Boris holds dual citizenship in Canada and Russia. Growing up, he was a dual athlete, participating in both ice hockey and box lacrosse, which helped him develop his athletic skills from a young age.

Path to Hockey

Katchouk began his ice hockey career with the Waterloo Wolves Minor Midget team in the Alliance Hockey League. During the 2013–14 season, he recorded an impressive 25 goals and 33 assists for 58 points in just 29 games, leading his team to an AHMMPL Championship. Following this success, he joined the Soo Thunderbirds of the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League (NOJHL), where he helped the team win multiple championships, including the James Aspin Trophy and the Dudley Hewitt Cup. His outstanding performance during this time included leading all Thunderbird players in scoring during the Dudley Hewitt Cup tournament. Katchouk also attended Resurrection Catholic Secondary School before being drafted by the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). He made his OHL debut as a 16-year-old during the 2014–15 season, playing 12 games before fully committing to the league the following year.

Early Career (2018–2021)

Katchouk’s professional career began after he was drafted by the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2016. He joined the Greyhounds for the 2015–16 season, where he recorded 24 goals and 27 assists for 51 points in 63 games, earning a spot on the OHL’s All-Rookie Team and being named the Greyhounds’ Rookie of the Year. In his NHL draft eligible year, he was ranked 25th among North American skaters by the NHL Central Scouting Bureau. Following his successful junior career, Katchouk was signed to a three-year entry-level contract by the Lightning on April 23, 2016.

Breakthrough (2021–2022)

Katchouk made his NHL debut on October 16, 2021, in a thrilling 7–6 overtime victory against the Detroit Red Wings. He scored his first NHL goal on December 5, 2021, against the Philadelphia Flyers. During his time with the Lightning, he played in 37 games, scoring two goals and six points. On March 18, 2022, Katchouk was traded to the Chicago Blackhawks, where he continued to develop his game.
