Cameron Dicker was born in Hong Kong to Kelly and Rachel Dicker. He has one sister named Annabelle. His parents, originally from Seattle, were working in China at the time of his birth. Dicker spent the first eleven years of his life in Shanghai, where his father worked. He grew up watching soccer and developed a passion for sports early on. In 2011, when he was eleven years old, his family relocated to Austin, Texas. During his high school career at Lake Travis High School in Austin, Dicker was a two-time all-state selection and served as the starting kicker for three seasons. He played a pivotal role in winning the Texas 6A Division I State Championship in 2016 alongside teammates Garrett Wilson and Charlie Brewer. Dicker accumulated a total of 331 points, successfully converting 34 of 43 field goal attempts and 229 of 232 extra point attempts. He set a Lake Travis High School record with a 53-yard field goal and was ranked as the number four kicker in the nation by 247Sports. On May 4, 2017, Dicker committed to play college football at the University of Texas.
Path to American Football
Dicker earned immediate playing time at the University of Texas, winning the starting role as a kicker. He had a remarkable freshman season, going 18 for 25 on field goals and 51 for 52 on extra points, which earned him second-team All-Big 12 honors in 2018. Dicker gained national recognition when he kicked the game-winning 40-yard field goal against Oklahoma in the 2018 Red River Showdown, earning him the nickname ‘Dicker the Kicker’ from play-by-play announcer Gus Johnson. He continued to excel in college, earning second-team All-Big 12 honors in 2020 and first-team All-Big 12 honors in 2021. Early Career (2022)
After going undrafted in the 2022 NFL Draft, Dicker signed with the Los Angeles Rams as an undrafted free agent on May 9, 2022. However, he was released by the Rams on August 16, 2022. Shortly after, on August 26, 2022, Dicker was signed by the Baltimore Ravens as a punter and kicker, but he was waived two days later as part of the final roster cuts. On October 4, 2022, Dicker was signed by the Philadelphia Eagles to their practice squad. He made a strong impression during his debut against the Arizona Cardinals on October 9, 2022, where he successfully made two field goals, including a game-winning 23-yard kick in the final minutes of the game. For his outstanding performance, Dicker was named the NFC Special Teams Player of the Week. He was released by the Eagles on October 29, 2022.
Breakthrough (2022-Present)
On November 3, 2022, Dicker was signed to the Los Angeles Chargers practice squad. He made an immediate impact, scoring two field goals, including a game-winning 37-yard kick against the Atlanta Falcons on November 6, 2022. This performance earned him his second Special Teams Player of the Week award, making him the first rookie kicker to win this award for two different teams in the same season. Dicker was signed to the Chargers’ active roster on November 22, 2022, to replace the injured Dustin Hopkins. He continued to shine, kicking a game-winning field goal against the Tennessee Titans on December 18, 2022, which helped the Chargers secure a Wild Card position.
