Foster Dane Sarell was born on August 28, 1998, in Tacoma, Washington. He attended Graham-Kapowsin High School, where he earned numerous accolades in football. During his high school career, he was thrice named the team’s lineman of the year and received all-area, all-state, and league honors multiple times. He was recognized as the league MVP in 2016 and was named first-team USA Today All-USA that same year. Sarell was a five-star recruit, widely regarded as the top high school player in Washington and ranked as high as number two nationally. In addition to football, he participated in track and field and basketball, achieving high academic honors throughout his high school years.

Path to American Football

After graduating from high school, Foster Sarell committed to Stanford University to play college football, joining a talented recruiting class that included quarterback Davis Mills and offensive lineman Walker Little. As a true freshman in 2017, he played 14 games as a backup offensive lineman. His sophomore season in 2018 was marred by injury, limiting him to just two games before he redshirted. In 2019, he returned to form, starting 11 games and earning honorable mention on the All-Pac-10 Conference team. Sarell started all six games of the shortened 2020 season due to COVID-19. He was initially waived during final roster cuts but returned to the team on September 16, 2021, being signed to the practice squad. However, he was released five days later. On September 1, 2021, Sarell joined the New York Giants practice squad but was released on September 28.

Breakthrough (2021-2022)

On October 14, 2021, Foster Sarell was signed by the Los Angeles Chargers as a practice squad member. He spent the entire 2021 season there without appearing in a game, but was signed to a future contract on January 11, 2022. After being released during final roster cuts in August 2022, he was re-signed to the practice squad. Sarell made his NFL debut in Week 6 against the Denver Broncos, appearing on five special teams snaps.
