Jakob Marsee was drafted by the San Diego Padres in the sixth round of the 2022 MLB draft. He signed with the Padres and began his professional career that same year with the Arizona Complex League Padres and later with the Lake Elsinore Storm. In 2023, he played for the High-A Fort Wayne TinCaps, where he had an impressive season, appearing in 129 games and achieving a batting average of .274 with 16 home runs, 46 runs batted in, and 46 stolen bases.

Breakthrough (2025)

Marsee’s breakthrough came in 2025 when he was traded to the Miami Marlins on May 4, alongside Dillon Head, Nathan Martorella, and Woo-suk Go, in exchange for Luis Arráez and cash considerations. He played 91 games for the Double-A Pensacola Blue Wahoos, hitting .188 with seven home runs and 37 runs batted in. He also had a stint with the Triple-A Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp, where he batted .275 with one home run and five runs batted in. Marsee made 98 appearances for the Jumbo Shrimp to begin the 2025 season, slashing .246/.379/.438 with 14 home runs, 37 runs batted in, and 47 stolen bases. On August 1, 2025, he was selected to the 40-man roster and made his MLB debut against the New York Yankees, where he recorded his first career hit and three walks. Just a few days later, on August 5, he hit his first career home run off AJ Blubaugh of the Houston Astros. His outstanding performance earned him the National League Rookie of the Month award for August 2025.
