Early Life and Background

Jaren Hall was born on March 24, 1998, in Spanish Fork, Utah. He attended Maple Mountain High School, where he excelled as a quarterback, accumulating 5,109 passing yards and 52 touchdowns during his high school career. His impressive performance led him to commit to Brigham Young University (BYU) to play college football.

Path to American Football

At BYU, Hall played in two games during his freshman year in 2018, taking a redshirt year. He later served as a backup to Zach Wilson, making two starts. Hall made history by becoming the first black quarterback to start a game for BYU when he took the field against South Florida. After a medical redshirt in 2020, he became the starter in 2021, completing 189 of 296 passes for 2,583 yards, 20 touchdowns, and five interceptions. Hall also played for BYU’s baseball team in 2019 and 2020, showcasing his athletic versatility.

Early Career (2023)

Jaren Hall was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in the fifth round, 164th overall, of the 2023 NFL Draft. He made his NFL debut in Week 8 of the 2023 season after the Vikings’ starting quarterback, Kirk Cousins, suffered a torn Achilles tendon. Hall started his first NFL game on November 5, 2023, but left the game after suffering a concussion. After clearing concussion protocol, he backed up quarterbacks Joshua Dobbs and Nick Mullens. In Week 17, he started against the Green Bay Packers, completing five of ten passes for 67 yards, an interception, and a lost fumble before being benched at halftime.

Breakthrough (2024)

On August 24, 2024, Hall played in a preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles, completing 28 of 46 passes for 339 yards, four touchdowns, and no interceptions. However, on August 29, 2024, he was waived by the Vikings to make room for Brett Rypien. Shortly after, on September 2, 2024, the Seattle Seahawks signed Hall to their practice squad. He was promoted to the active roster as an emergency third quarterback for several games in December 2024.
