Jordan Greenway is an American professional ice hockey player who is a forward for the Buffalo Sabres of the National Hockey League (NHL). He was selected by the Minnesota Wild in the second round (50th overall) in the 2015 NHL entry draft. Internationally, Greenway has represented the United States at the 2017 IIHF World Championship and 2018 Winter Olympics, becoming the first African-American named to a US Olympic ice hockey roster.
Early Life and Background
Jordan Greenway was born on February 16, 1997, in Canton, New York. He began playing hockey at a young age in the local minor hockey association. Jordan Greenway made his NHL debut on March 27, 2018, after signing a three-year entry-level contract with the Minnesota Wild. He played his first career NHL playoff game in the 2018 Stanley Cup playoffs, becoming the first player to participate in the Olympic Games, an NCAA tournament, and the Stanley Cup playoffs in the same season. Greenway scored his first NHL goal during the playoffs in a game against the Winnipeg Jets.
Breakthrough (2021–2023)
In the 2021-22 season, Greenway was signed to a three-year, $9 million contract extension by the Minnesota Wild. However, the 2022–23 season was challenging for him, as he recorded only 2 goals and 7 points in 45 regular season games. On March 3, 2023, he was traded to the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for two draft picks.
