Both of her sisters played collegiate basketball, with Karlee attending Indiana University and Jayden initially playing at Georgetown University before transferring to Appalachian State University. McBride attended Villa Maria Academy in Erie, where she was a standout player, earning multiple accolades during her high school career. She was a three-year starter and four-year letterwinner, helping her team achieve a remarkable combined record of 106–15, including two Pennsylvania Class AA state titles in 2009 and 2010.
