Kent Johnson (born October 18, 2002) is a Canadian professional ice hockey forward currently playing for the Columbus Blue Jackets of the National Hockey League (NHL). He played college ice hockey for the University of Michigan. He was drafted fifth overall by the Blue Jackets in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft.
Early Life and Background
Kent Johnson was born in Port Moody, British Columbia, Canada. He grew up in a family that valued sports, with his father, Jay Johnson, and mother, Anita Johnson, supporting his early interest in hockey. Johnson’s mother has Finnish roots, having moved to Vancouver at the age of two. Despite his heritage, Kent does not speak Finnish. His brother, Kyle Johnson, played hockey for Yale University from 2018 to 2022.

Johnson began his hockey career in the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL) with the Trail Smoke Eaters. During his first season in 2018-19, he recorded 20 goals and 26 points in 57 games.
