Early Life and Background

Kurtis MacDermid was born in Quebec City, Quebec, Canada. He is the son of former NHL player Paul MacDermid and spent his early years in Sauble Beach, Ontario. Growing up in a family with a strong hockey background, he was exposed to the sport from a young age, which laid the foundation for his future career.

Path to Hockey

MacDermid began his junior hockey career with the Owen Sound Greys in the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League. He was selected in the 2010 Ontario Hockey League (OHL) Priority Draft, 139th overall by the Owen Sound Attack. He made his debut in the OHL with the Attack during the 2011–12 season and later concluded his junior career with the Erie Otters in the 2014–15 season. Following his junior success, he signed as an undrafted free agent with the Los Angeles Kings on September 13, 2012, marking the start of his professional journey.

He made his NHL debut on October 5, 2017, in a victory against the Philadelphia Flyers and scored his first NHL goal on October 26, 2017, against the Montreal Canadiens.

In the 2021 NHL expansion draft, MacDermid was selected by the Seattle Kraken but was soon traded to the Colorado Avalanche. He signed a two-year contract extension with the Avalanche on April 5, 2022.
