Kurtis MacDermid Bio
Kurtis MacDermid (born March 25, 1994) is a Canadian professional ice hockey forward for the Ottawa Senators of the National Hockey League (NHL). MacDermid won the Stanley Cup with the Colorado Avalanche in 2022. He is mostly known as an enforcer.
Early Life and Background
Kurtis MacDermid was born in Quebec City, Quebec, Canada. He is the son of former NHL player Paul MacDermid and spent his early years in Sauble Beach, Ontario. Growing up in a family with a strong hockey background, he was exposed to the sport from a young age, which laid the foundation for his future career.
Path to Hockey
MacDermid began his junior hockey career with the Owen Sound Greys in the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League. He was selected in the 2010 Ontario Hockey League (OHL) Priority Draft, 139th overall by the Owen Sound Attack. He made his debut in the OHL with the Attack during the 2011–12 season and later concluded his junior career with the Erie Otters in the 2014–15 season. Following his junior success, he signed as an undrafted free agent with the Los Angeles Kings on September 13, 2012, marking the start of his professional journey.

MacDermid began his professional career with the Los Angeles Kings organization, initially assigned to their American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Ontario Reign, for the 2015–16 season. He made his NHL debut on October 5, 2017, in a victory against the Philadelphia Flyers and scored his first NHL goal on October 26, 2017, against the Montreal Canadiens.

In the 2021 NHL expansion draft, MacDermid was selected by the Seattle Kraken but was soon traded to the Colorado Avalanche. He signed a two-year contract extension with the Avalanche on April 5, 2022. Although he did not play during the 2022 Stanley Cup playoffs, he was part of the team that won the Stanley Cup, with his name engraved on the trophy, marking a significant milestone in his career.
