Mac McClung Bio
Matthew Ford “Mac” McClung (born January 6, 1999) is an American professional basketball player who last played for the Indiana Pacers of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He played college basketball for the Georgetown Hoyas and the Texas Tech Red Raiders. He is one of only two players to win the NBA Slam Dunk Contest three times, alongside Nate Robinson, and is the only player to achieve three consecutive victories in this event.

Mac McClung was born in Gate City, Virginia, a small town with a population of around 2,000. Growing up, he initially played football, a sport that is more popular in Southwest Virginia than basketball. His father was pleased when Mac decided to focus solely on basketball after his freshman year of high school. An injury during eighth grade helped him refine his shooting technique, which he developed further under the guidance of his high school coach, Greg Ervin.
Path to Basketball
During his high school career at Gate City High School, McClung gained recognition as an acrobatic dunker. He first started dunking as a sophomore and quickly became one of the most exciting players in the nation. In his junior year, he scored a career-high 64 points in a game, setting a record for the best scoring performance in his school’s history. By the end of his high school career, he had led his team to a state championship and set multiple scoring records, including surpassing Allen Iverson’s single-season scoring record.
After high school, McClung initially committed to play for Rutgers but later transferred to Georgetown University, where he played for two seasons before transferring again to Texas Tech. His college career was marked by impressive performances, including a freshman season where he averaged 13.1 points per game and was named to the Big East All-Freshman Team.

Early Career (2021)
Mac McClung went undrafted in the 2021 NBA Draft but signed with the Los Angeles Lakers for the NBA Summer League. After being waived, he joined the South Bay Lakers, the G League affiliate of the Lakers. His debut with South Bay was impressive, scoring 24 points, nine assists, and six rebounds in a victory over the NBA G League Ignite.
During the 2021-2022 season, McClung signed a series of 10-day contracts with the Chicago Bulls and was assigned to their G League affiliate, the Windy City Bulls. He was named the NBA G League Rookie of the Year for his outstanding performance during this period.
