He played college football for the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs and was selected by the Philadelphia Eagles in the third round of the 2021 NFL draft. Williams has quickly established himself as a significant player in the NFL, known for his defensive skills and contributions to his teams’ successes.

Early Life and Background

Milton Williams was born in Crowley, Texas, where he attended Crowley High School. During his high school career, he recorded impressive statistics, including 300 tackles and 22 sacks, while also scoring four touchdowns. Despite his achievements, Williams was not heavily recruited by major college programs, which led him to commit to Louisiana Tech University to pursue his college football career.

Path to American Football

Williams played college football at Louisiana Tech from 2017 to 2020. After redshirting his freshman year, he developed into a key defensive tackle for the Bulldogs. In his junior season, he had a breakout year, earning First-Team All-Conference USA honors after recording 10 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks in just 10 games. He finished his college career with a total of 108 tackles and 10.5 sacks. After the 2020 season, Williams decided to forgo his senior year and declared for the 2021 NFL draft.

Milton Williams was selected by the Philadelphia Eagles in the third round (73rd overall) of the 2021 NFL draft. He signed a four-year rookie contract with the Eagles on June 3, 2021. During his rookie season, Williams played in all 17 games, contributing significantly as a depth piece behind veterans like Fletcher Cox and Javon Hargrave. He recorded his first career sack against Jared Goff and finished the season with 30 total tackles, six tackles for loss, two sacks, and six quarterback hits. In 2022, Williams continued to develop and played an important role in a dominant Eagles defense that helped the team reach Super Bowl LVII. He improved his production, recording 36 tackles, nine quarterback hits, and four sacks. Although the Eagles lost the Super Bowl to the Kansas City Chiefs, Williams’ performance solidified his place on the team.

Breakthrough (2024)

By the 2023 season, Williams had established himself as a crucial part of the defensive line rotation for the Eagles. His steady growth made him a valuable asset to the team’s defensive front. In 2024, he remained a key contributor, further refining his technique and impact on the field. With the retirement of Fletcher Cox, Williams saw increased snaps throughout the year. He had two sacks and forced and recovered a fumble in the Eagles’ victory over the Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX.
