Early Life and Background

Trevor Zegras was born to Gary and Julie Zegras, who are of Greek descent. He began skating at the young age of three and participated in the Rising Stars youth program alongside his cousins. Growing up, he was a fan of the New York Rangers and admired Patrick Kane of the Chicago Blackhawks, studying his playing style. This early exposure to hockey laid the foundation for his future career in the sport.

Path to Hockey

In his youth, Trevor Zegras played bantam major ice hockey with the Mid Fairfield Rangers before joining the Avon Old Farms school’s Winged Beavers in the Founders League. During his time with the Winged Beavers from 2016 to 2017, he recorded 18 goals and 24 assists for a total of 42 points. His performance caught the attention of scouts, and he subsequently joined the USA Hockey National Team Development Program’s under-17 team for the 2017–18 season in the United States Hockey League (USHL), where he excelled with 20 goals and 39 assists. Following this, he joined the under-18 team in 2018–19, earning an impressive 87 points, including 61 assists. His outstanding play in the USHL led to his selection in the first round, ninth overall, by the Anaheim Ducks in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft. Early Career (2021–2022)

Trevor Zegras concluded his collegiate career on March 27, 2020, by signing a three-year, entry-level contract with the Anaheim Ducks. After signing, he was reassigned to their American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the San Diego Gulls, to finish the 2020–21 season. Zegras made his professional debut with the Gulls on February 5, 2021, where he scored one goal and provided two assists in a 4–1 victory over the Bakersfield Condors. He was recalled to the NHL later that month and made his NHL debut against the Arizona Coyotes on February 22, 2021. On March 18, 2021, he scored his first NHL goal in a game against the Coyotes, making history as one of the youngest players to score their first NHL goals within a short time frame. He finished his rookie season with 13 points in 24 games.

Breakthrough (2021–2022)

During the 2021–22 season, Trevor Zegras quickly established himself as a key player for the Anaheim Ducks, playing primarily as a center. He gained widespread attention for his innovative play, including a remarkable lacrosse-style assist to Sonny Milano in a game against the Buffalo Sabres on December 7, 2021. By December, he had accumulated 22 points in 27 games, ranking second among league rookies in scoring.
