Scott Reedy Joins Bridgeport Islanders on AHL Tryout Contract

The Bridgeport Islanders of the AHL have added center Scott Reedy on a professional tryout basis, as reported by Stefen Rosner of The Hockey News. Reedy has yet to participate in any games during the current season, marking a return after an extended absence from competitive play.

Background: Reedy’s Career and Recent Struggles

Reedy’s comeback comes after more than 11 months without playing, and nearly four years since his last appearance in the NHL. Drafted in the fourth round by the San Jose Sharks in 2017, he showed steady development across four seasons at the University of Minnesota. His college tenure culminated in 2020-21 with an All-Star season where he averaged a point per game.

Transitioning to professional hockey, Reedy split his first full pro season between San Jose’s NHL and AHL teams. Playing a bottom-six forward role, he notched seven goals and two assists in 35 NHL contests, averaging approximately 11 minutes and 11 seconds of ice time per game. In 38 AHL outings, he contributed 18 goals and 27 points, sparking hope that he could become a reliable NHL depth player.

However, Reedy’s progression stalled. The following season, his production dipped to five goals and 15 points over 38 AHL games, and he was traded to the Dallas Stars. Though productive when available, injuries severely limited his playtime. From his acquisition in March 2023 through the end of the 2023-24 season, he appeared in just 30 games for the Texas Stars in the AHL, registering 11 goals and 17 points.

Recent Movements and Current Opportunity with Bridgeport

After the Stars chose not to qualify him in the off-season, Reedy went unsigned until December, when he secured a tryout spot with the Milwaukee Admirals, the AHL affiliate of the Nashville Predators. There, he posted four goals and nine points across 25 games before entering free agency once more.

Now signed to a tryout contract with Bridgeport, Reedy aims to contribute during the remaining roughly two months of the campaign. He joins a significantly improved Islanders roster, which is performing around .500 this season after a disappointing 15-50-7 record in 2024-25.

Implications of Reedy’s Return to Professional Hockey

Scott Reedy’s signing represents a chance for both player and team to find value amid uncertainty. For Reedy, the Bridgeport Islanders offer a platform to reestablish himself following injury setbacks and limited playing time. The Islanders benefit from adding a versatile forward who brings experience and speed to their lineup during a critical stretch of the season. How much Reedy can impact the remainder of the campaign remains unclear, but this opportunity could determine his next steps in professional hockey.
