The Sacramento Kings delivered a strong performance on Thursday night, defeating the Dallas Mavericks 130-121 at the American Airlines Center. The victory highlighted Daeqwon Plowden’s significant contribution as the Kings managed to keep their lead despite a late surge from the Mavericks, marking another important step in their season.
The Kings started the game with great energy, scoring a season-high 42 points in the first quarter. Precious Achiuwa led the charge with 14 points during that opening period, achieving a personal best for points scored in a single quarter.

Achiuwa continued to impress throughout the game, ending with a career-high 29 points. His increased productivity comes after stepping up due to injuries to key players Domantas Sabonis and rookie Dylan Cardwell. Over the last five games, Achiuwa has averaged 17 points and 9.4 rebounds per game while shooting an efficient 59.1 percent from the field.
Daeqwon Plowden’s Key Role and Perfect Scoring Performance
Daeqwon Plowden delivered a flawless shooting effort, making all seven of his field goal attempts to tie his career high of 19 points. The two-way guard’s ability to find open shots and connect in transition added an important offensive dimension for the Kings.
We have a good team of playmakers and understanding that they’re going to get to their spots, and they’re going to bring a lot of attention in, and now it’s just me finding windows where I can get off quick threes or even cuts to the basket or even in transition, and I think it gels well with what we have going on,
Plowden said after the game.
His impact was most evident in the final minutes when he contributed a powerful dunk and a crucial three-pointer to help close out the win. These plays helped the Kings maintain composure when the Mavericks narrowed the lead to just two points with under two minutes remaining.

Plowden’s Journey from G-League to NBA Opportunity
Signed to a two-way contract during the offseason, Plowden had limited NBA appearances before being promoted to the main roster just before the trade deadline. Since January 30, he has played in 11 of the Kings’ last 12 games, showing steady improvement and seizing his chance to contribute at the highest level.
Reflecting on his path through the G-League, Plowden acknowledged how the experience helped develop his mental toughness and patience, which he continues to apply in his NBA career.
Above all, I appreciate the ups and the downs especially throughout the years of being in the G,
Plowden said.
It’s taught me mental stability. It’s taught me stability on the court. It’s taught me patience on the court. It’s still teaching me patience to this day. I think it just goes back to appreciate all of the days that I have spent in the G and all the time that I’ve spent into my development. …
There’s a lot of guys that are building and developing in the G-League that can go get it on any given night, it’s just that right now it’s my opportunity.
Supporting Contributions from Devin Carter and Rookies
Second-year guard Devin Carter also played a pivotal role, starting for the second time this season and putting in a strong all-around performance. Carter finished with 15 points, seven rebounds, and four assists during his 32 minutes of play, demonstrating his athleticism and defensive intensity by tying a career-high with four steals.

Carter had missed the previous games against the Memphis Grizzlies and Houston Rockets but took advantage of his opportunity against Dallas to showcase his growing skills on both ends of the court.
In addition to Carter’s efforts, rookies Maxime Raynaud and Nique Clifford also made valuable contributions. Raynaud scored 22 points and grabbed six rebounds, while Clifford posted 13 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists despite shooting 6-for-19 from the field.
What This Win Means for the Kings Moving Forward
This victory marks Sacramento’s second win in their last three games, a positive trend that bolsters the team’s confidence as they prepare to face new challenges. With two days off before their next contest against the Los Angeles Lakers, the Kings have time to rest and refine their strategies.
The win reflects a growing resilience within the Sacramento roster, supported by emerging players like Daeqwon Plowden and Devin Carter, along with consistent contributions from established names like Precious Achiuwa. Their collective effort showcased teamwork, determination, and the ability to perform under pressure, all promising signs for the remainder of the NBA season.
