Julian Reese, who developed his professional skills within the Toronto Raptors system, has now been signed by the Washington Wizards on a two-way contract. The 22-year-old rookie forward, known for his consistent play with Raptors 905, Toronto’s NBA G League affiliate, is returning closer to home through this new opportunity.
Career Growth from College to Professional Ranks
The Baltimore native, and younger brother of WNBA standout Angel Reese, played four years at the University of Maryland near Washington, D.C. During his senior season, Reese averaged 13.3 points, 9.0 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 1.1 steals, and 1.5 blocks while partnering in the frontcourt with 2025 lottery pick Derik Queen. Together, they led Maryland to a 27-9 record and a fourth seed entering March Madness, before being eliminated by eventual champions Florida in the West Regional semifinals.
Performance Highlights with Raptors 905
This season, Reese quickly moved up the Raptors 905 depth chart, appearing in 38 games and starting twice. He averaged 7.9 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 1.1 assists across 17.2 minutes per game. Reese led the team with a 62.8 percent field goal shooting percentage and topped offensive rebounds with 2.7 per game, ranking second overall in total rebounds for the club.
He initially joined the Raptors organization via an Exhibit 10 contract in training camp, was waived shortly after, and then assigned to the Raptors 905 squad, where he made a strong impression.
New Role Within the Wizards Roster
Now with the Wizards, Reese fills the team’s third and last two-way slot, joining promising young talents Sharife Cooper and Leaky Black. His addition brings frontcourt depth and rebounding strength to a developing roster.
Reese holds a notable place in Maryland’s history, ranking second all-time in total rebounds with 1,015 and joining Len Elmore as one of only two Terrapins players to amass at least 1,000 career points and rebounds.
Looking Ahead for Julian Reese and the Wizards
This signing marks a significant step for Reese as he aims to prove himself at the NBA level while staying connected to his roots in the Washington area. His proven rebounding ability and efficient scoring offer the Wizards additional options as they nurture their young players and strive for future success.
