Stephen Curry Out of All-Star Game Due to Knee Injury

Stephen Curry will be sidelined for the NBA All-Star Game and the Golden State Warriors’ last two games before the All-Star break because of a runner’s knee, Warriors coach Steve Kerr announced Monday. The team hopes Curry will recover in time to play when the Warriors resume action after the break.

Brandon Ingram Named as Curry’s Replacement for the All-Star Game

The NBA confirmed that Brandon Ingram of the Toronto Raptors will take Curry’s spot in the All-Star lineup. This marks Ingram’s second All-Star selection, having previously appeared in the event during the 2019-20 season with the New Orleans Pelicans.

Curry’s Recent Absence and Current Season Performance

At 37 years old, Curry has not been on the court since January 30 and has missed the Warriors’ last four games, including the game against the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday. Despite his injury setbacks, Curry remains in excellent form this season, averaging 27.2 points per game. He is shooting 47% from the field, 39% from three-point range, and 93% from the free-throw line, leading the NBA in both three-pointers per game (4.0) and free throw percentage.

Warriors’ Team Context and Injury Challenges

Curry has carried a significant load for Golden State, especially following the loss of Jimmy Butler to a torn ACL. The Warriors entered Tuesday with a 29-25 record, holding the eighth spot in the Western Conference standings.

Other All-Star Changes Due to Injuries

Curry is the second All-Star player to withdraw because of injury. Oklahoma City Thunder’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has also been ruled out due to an abdominal strain, with Houston Rocketscenter Alperen Şengün stepping in for the World team. Additionally, NBA commissioner Adam Silver added Los Angeles Clippers star Kawhi Leonard to the All-Star roster to ensure the Team USA squad has eight players.

Potential Additional Absences and Team Rosters

There is a probability that Milwaukee BucksGiannis Antetokounmpo, also injured, will not participate in the All-Star Game. Presently, the World team has nine players listed, including Antetokounmpo.
