Dillon Brooks Out with Broken Hand, Return Date Unclear

Phoenix Suns forward Dillon Brooks sustained a broken left hand during the team’s home game against the Orlando Magic on Saturday, forcing him to exit with an undetermined recovery timeline, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania. Brooks left the game with 4:46 remaining in the first quarter and did not return to the court.

The injury reportedly occurred on a contested jumper where contact was made by the Magic’s Wendell Carter Jr., as reported by Duane Rankin of the Arizona Republic. Brooks had been active for seven minutes, scoring five points and grabbing three rebounds before leaving the game.

Suns Face Multiple Injuries Among Leading Players

Ryan Dunn replaced Brooks to start the second half after the injury. Brooks had been shooting 2-for-7 from the field and hit one of three three-point attempts before his exit. His absence, combined with other injuries, has left the Suns without two of their top scorers for the remainder of Saturday’s game.

Before the match, the Suns confirmed that Devin Booker would miss at least a week due to a right hip strain sustained in the previous Thursday’s loss to the San Antonio Spurs. Booker, who leads the team with an average of 24.7 points and 6.1 assists over 44 games, had also missed seven games earlier this season due to a right ankle sprain.

Brooks, who ranks second on the roster with a career-high average of 21.2 points per game across 49 contests, is no stranger to missing time this season, having dealt with groin injuries and serving a one-game suspension for multiple fouls prior to his recent return.

Additional roster challenges include the absence of Haywood Highsmith, who has not played this season following offseason knee surgery. The team indicated Highsmith will be re-evaluated in two to three weeks. Meanwhile, Grayson Allen, questionable before Saturday’s game with a right ankle sprain, was available off the bench.

Upcoming Schedule and Team Outlook Amid Injuries

Heading into Saturday’s matchup, the Suns held the No. 7 spot in the Western Conference with a 32-24 record but had lost four of their last five games. The team has three upcoming home games within the next week, facing the Portland Trail Blazers on Sunday night, the Boston Celtics on Tuesday, and the Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday.

With both Brooks and Booker sidelined, the Suns will likely look to Jalen Green to take on a larger role. Green recently returned after missing much of the season with a persistent right hamstring injury, and his increased contributions could be crucial during this challenging stretch.

“We are taking things day by day and focusing on the players we have available to give us their best effort.” ?Shams Charania, Sports Journalist
