Kings’ Keegan Murray Out 2 Weeks with Ankle Injury

The Sacramento Kings have confirmed that forward Keegan Murray will be sidelined for at least two weeks after suffering a mild left ankle sprain during Wednesday’s game against the Houston Rockets. Murray injured his ankle early in the first quarter while contesting a shot, leaving the game after playing only nine minutes. This marks the second time this season that Murray has dealt with an issue in the same ankle, which was reportedly uninjured prior to this year despite his extensive basketball experience in college and the NBA.

Murray’s Injury History and Team Considerations

This season has been challenging for Murray, as he has appeared in just 23 games due to various injuries. Although the current ankle sprain appears to be minor, there is ongoing concern about the wisdom of rushing his return. With the Kings out of playoff contention, some argue it may be more beneficial to prioritize Murray’s health and allow him to fully recover during the offseason, reducing the risk of further setbacks. The Kings recently secured Murray on a five-year contract extension, reinforcing his importance to their future plans and underscoring the need for cautious management of his injury.

Adjusting the Roster During Murray’s Absence

With Murray sidelined, increased playing time is expected for players like Precious Achiuwa, Daeqwon Plowden, and Patrick Baldwin Jr. Achiuwa notably led the Kings with 29 points in their recent game against the Dallas Mavericks, while Plowden contributed 19 points with a flawless 7-for-7 shooting performance off the bench. The Kings are set to face the Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday as they look to move forward without Murray on the court.
