Wide receiver George Pickens has noticed his market value rise since being traded to the Dallas Cowboys from the Pittsburgh Steelers. While he has not personally entered into discussions regarding a contract extension, Pickens indicated that his agent might have connected with Cowboys owner Jerry Jones about potential negotiations. Speaking on his contract outlook, Pickens expressed readiness for a deal if it benefits both sides but emphasized he has no control over the timing or details.
“But when you can’t control it, you kind of just hope for the best. Just the ultimate best deal when it helps everybody. If it’s the best thing for both parties, then I’m willing to do anything. But like I said, I can’t control it, so I just kind of chill,”
Pickens said.
When asked directly about conversations with Jones, Pickens replied,
“No, not me personally. Definitely, probably my agent. He doesn’t tell me who he calls all the time, so definitely just kind of wait it out and hope for the best. I feel like, if anything, (my value) went up. But me personally, my value is just a playmaker type of guy. I feel like any team or wherever I play, I can be playing in Canada, I just want them to know that I’m definitely a playmaker.”
Micah Parsons Reflects on His Trade and Contract Conflict with Jerry Jones
Meanwhile, linebacker Micah Parsons started the 2025 NFL season after being traded from the Dallas Cowboys to the Green Bay Packers. The trade followed a fallout in Parsons’ working relationship with Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, stemming from disagreements during contract talks. Parsons revealed regret about initiating a one-on-one discussion with Jones that triggered contract tensions.
“I just wish some of those things never happened. You know what I mean? I wish that he never brought me into the office and just let the agent speak. And I wish he hadn’t compromised our relationship. I thought me and Jerry had a good relationship up to that point until this offseason, and it’s sad that it went to shit like that,”
Parsons said, according to Clarence Hill of All City DLLS Cowboys.
Despite the split, Parsons holds no animosity toward Jones and expressed gratitude for his time with the Cowboys.
“I don’t know about Jerry, but I have no bad blood. If I saw Jerry today, I would shake hands with him and say thank you for the opportunity I had to be a Cowboy,”
Parsons added.
Parsons appreciated landing with the Packers and signing a record-breaking contract extension with the organization.
“There’s only two people who know the real truth — me and Jerry Jones. I’m not mad or anything. I went to another historic organization. I got paid a historic amount. So I got really nothing to be mad about in this world,”
he said.
Recent Coaching Hires Bolster the Cowboys’ Staff
The Dallas Cowboys have made several significant coaching appointments as they build their roster and staff for the upcoming seasons. ESPN’s Todd Archer reported that the Cowboys scheduled an in-person interview with Georgia’s outside linebackers coach Chidera Uzo-Diribe, with Matt Zenitz later confirming the team hired him.
Additionally, former Minnesota Vikings defensive line coach Marcus Dixon has joined Dallas as the defensive line coach under new defensive coordinator Christian Parker. Further strengthening the staff, the Cowboys brought on former Cleveland Browns assistant wide receivers coach Stephen Bravo-Brown to assist the offensive unit.
New Offensive Leadership for the Eagles Draws Praise from Patriots Veteran
On a related note in NFL coaching circles, the Philadelphia Eagles recently appointed Sean Mannion as their offensive coordinator following his role as quarterbacks coach with the Green Bay Packers. Veteran Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels offered encouragement to Mannion about taking on his new responsibilities, emphasizing the importance of clear communication and developing an identity as a playcaller.
“I don’t know if there is the perfect timeline for any of that (taking on the challenge of being a play caller and a coordinator for the first time). I think when you get the opportunity, it’s probably the most important thing you have confidence in what you want to do and a way to communicate your vision for what you want it to look like. There’s a million different philosophies on how to do it well, and what’s important is can you explain to the coaches and players exactly what you are looking for. He’s been around football for a long time. He’s done it at a high level, and I’m sure he’s going to do his job really well,”
McDaniels said, as reported by EaglesWire.
Significance and Outlook for George Pickens and the Cowboys
George Pickens’ rising contract value highlights his increasing importance to the Cowboys’ offense after his move from Pittsburgh. His approach to contract talks—patient, pragmatic, with an emphasis on mutual benefit—reflects a mature outlook amid the uncertainties of NFL negotiations. At the same time, the parallel situation of Micah Parsons illustrates how contract discussions can strain relationships with team leadership.
The Cowboys’ recent staff additions, including Chidera Uzo-Diribe, Marcus Dixon, and Stephen Bravo-Brown, showcase the franchise’s commitment to strengthening both defensive and offensive coaching capabilities. These moves, combined with Pickens’ developing role, position Dallas to remain competitive moving forward.
As contract discussions unfold, Pickens’ status as a dynamic playmaker could secure him a significant new deal in Dallas, affecting the team’s long-term offensive strategy. Fans and analysts alike will watch closely as negotiations and team improvements continue heading into future seasons.
