As Super Bowl LX approaches, most NFL observers were caught off guard by the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks reaching the final, a scenario not widely predicted before the 2025 season. Micah Parsons voiced his skepticism about these two franchises competing for the championship during a live recording of his podcast The Edge in San Francisco on Saturday, where he challenged their legitimacy as contenders.
Podcast Discussion Highlights Parsons’ Disapproval and Players’ Perspectives
On the episode, Parsons was joined by Carolina Panthers quarterback Bryce Young and Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown. The trio reviewed a fan poll ranking the top five teams favored to win the Super Bowl next year, with neither the Patriots nor Seahawks included. Young acknowledged that those playing in the big game earned their spot, but Parsons appeared dismissive of the matchup.
Y’all can say I’m a hater,
Parsons remarked.
This ain’t what the Super Bowl is supposed to look like.
Brown, who recently secured a Super Bowl victory, emphasized the difficulty of reaching the championship game.
It’s so hard to win in this league,
Brown said.
So the two teams that are there, they deserve to be there, guys. Trust me. Like, it’s really hard. I’m not just saying that. It is so hard to win.
Though Parsons seemed ready to explain his viewpoint further, he refrained, adding humor and uncertainty.
I just feel like this year, specifically,
Parsons said, before trailing off amid laughter from the audience.
Parsons Identifies Packers as Preferred Super Bowl Participants
When Young queried which teams Parsons thought should be in the Super Bowl, Parsons candidly named the Green Bay Packers. Parsons, who suffered a season-ending ACL injury before the playoffs, had watched the Packers surrender a significant lead in their first-round exit against the Chicago Bears. This choice aligns with general betting market skepticism, as Las Vegas odds suggested a Patriots-Seahawks final was the least probable matchup at the season’s start.
Despite this, both New England and Seattle finished strong, each posting a 14-3 record and winning their conferences after failing to make the playoffs the previous year.
Super Bowl LX Set to Kick Off Amid Mixed Expectations
While Parsons and some fans find the Patriots-Seahawks pairing unsatisfying or unexpected, the game is scheduled to kick off on Sunday at 6:30 p.m. ET on NBC. As the league’s most watched event, Super Bowl LX will determine whether these teams can rise above doubts and claim the Lombardi Trophy, or if Parsons’ and others’ preferred favorites, like the Packers, will be validated by future seasons.
