Nazem Kadri Breaks Silence Amid Flames Trade Rumors

The Calgary Flames have endured a challenging season so far, currently positioned seventh in the Pacific Division. This struggle has fueled trade rumors involving key team members, including forward Nazem Kadri. Kadri recently addressed these rumors, highlighting open communication within the organization as reported by NHL.com.

Kadri Comments on Internal Discussions Within the Team

Speaking about the talks, Kadri said,

“Obviously, those we’ll keep private, but, yeah, we’ve had discussions and communicated. I think that’s what makes it great, is having that open line of conversation and just being able to understand where everybody’s at.”

Kadri is in the midst of a seven-year contract extension signed before the 2022-23 season, with a $7 million average annual value and three years remaining. Although his contract might attract interest, his age — 35 — could be a concern for potential suitors.

Contract Details and Trade Protections

Kadri holds a modified no-trade clause with a 13-team no-trade list, details of which have not been disclosed by either Kadri or the Flames. Besides Kadri, Blake Coleman is also considered a possible trade candidate as the Flames strategize to improve their standing.

Coleman Reflects on Conversations with Flames Management

Blake Coleman shared his perspective on talks with the Flames’ general manager, stating,

“That’s the good thing about ‘Conny,’ he’s lived it,”

followed by,

“He’s been in my shoes and guys in the room’s shoes. There’s a lot of mutual respect and understanding the situation on both sides. I don’t think it’s a lack of appreciation for anyone here, I think it’s just the situation we’re in.”

Championship Experience Increases Trade Appeal

Both Kadri and Coleman bring valuable playoff experience to the table, with Kadri having won the Stanley Cup with the Colorado Avalanche, and Coleman securing two championships while with the Tampa Bay Lightning. Their backgrounds could make them attractive to teams aiming to strengthen their rosters for a playoff push.

Flames’ Current Standings and Upcoming Games

The Flames currently hold a 23-27-6 record, trailing the playoff cutoff by 11 points. As they prepare to return from the Olympic break, they are set to face the San Jose Sharks on Thursday night, marking an important game for the team as it seeks momentum heading into the final stretch of the season.
