The Houston Gamblers officially signed tight end Armani Rogers on Thursday, as noted on the UFL Transactions page. This addition marks a significant step for the team seeking to strengthen their lineup.
Armani Rogers’ Professional Journey and Recent Activity
Armani Rogers, a 28-year-old from Buffalo, New York, stands six feet five inches tall and weighs 225 pounds. He entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent, signing with the Washington Commanders on May 6, 2022. During the 2022 season, Rogers appeared in 11 games, starting in three, and recorded five receptions for 64 yards, two carries for 26 yards, along with three tackles (one solo, two assists).
After suffering an Achilles injury that sidelined him for the 2023 season, Rogers was released by the Commanders on August 6, 2024. The Philadelphia Eagles claimed him off waivers the following day, where he participated in two preseason games, making two catches for 24 yards. Despite this, the Eagles released him on August 27, 2024. His career has also included stints with the Atlanta Falcons and the Buffalo Bills.
Collegiate Record Highlights and Position Shift
In college, Rogers played quarterback for four seasons at UNLV between 2016 and 2019, completing 192 of 385 passes (49.9%) for 2,465 yards, 18 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions. He ran for 1,549 yards and 18 rushing touchdowns on 289 carries, and contributed defensively with two solo tackles in 21 games. His efforts earned him the Mountain West Freshman of the Year honor in 2017.
He then transferred to Ohio University for the 2020 and 2021 seasons, completing 34 of 58 passes (59%) for 398 yards with one touchdown and one interception. Rogers added 111 carries for 666 yards and nine rushing touchdowns, while also catching two passes for two yards in 15 games with the Bobcats.
Implications of the Signing for Houston Gamblers
By signing Armani Rogers, the Houston Gamblers incorporate a versatile player with quarterback experience and tight end skills, potentially expanding their offensive options. His track record in college and professional leagues suggests valuable adaptability, which could prove important as the Gamblers seek competitive advantages in upcoming games.
