Harbor Beach Renovate Courts for Pickleball: The city of Harbor Beach has unveiled its newly repainted basketball and pickleball courts just in time for the season, marking the culmination of a collaborative effort between various community stakeholders.
Harbor Beach City Manager Ron Wruble highlighted the cooperative spirit behind the project, emphasizing the contributions of the Huron County Community Foundation and the Beach Assault basketball tournament. “Through working with the two groups, they were able to fully resurface and paint new lines for the courts,” Wruble remarked, underscoring the significance of teamwork in achieving this feat.
“The hoops and nets were installed last year,” Wruble continued. “It’s open to the public now, and we will have an official ribbon-cutting closer to the maritime festival.” This initiative represents a milestone in enhancing the city’s recreational infrastructure, providing residents with improved facilities for outdoor activities.
The courts, situated atop the city’s water retention basin, serve as a testament to the community’s commitment to fostering vibrant public spaces. Executive Director of the HCCF Mackenzie Price elaborated on the foundation’s support for the project, noting their strategic focus on enhancing community well-being. “Supporting vibrant and dynamic communities is a strategic priority of HCCF,” Price stated. “Enhancing use of our public spaces with additional resources and places for the community to gather creates vibrancy.”
Despite the logistical challenges, Wruble expressed optimism about the project’s impact on the community. “I think this is going to be very good for the community,” Wruble remarked. “Even with it only being open for a few days, there have already been people out there using the courts,” he added, highlighting the immediate positive reception from residents.
The newly revamped courts, adjacent to Lincoln Memorial Park, offer a welcoming space for individuals of all ages to engage in recreational activities. As registration for this year’s Beach Assault basketball tournament opens, the city looks forward to hosting a range of events that promote community engagement and well-being.
With the completion of this project, Harbor Beach reaffirms its commitment to providing residents with accessible and high-quality recreational amenities, setting the stage for a vibrant and active summer season.
