During his early years, Anderson was considered an undersized lineman, which led him to commit to Rice University as a junior, despite interest from larger programs such as Texas Tech and Kansas State. He completed his high school education at Westlake, where he began to develop his skills further.

Anderson’s college career began at Rice University, where he redshirted his freshman year. He became a three-year starter, playing in 36 consecutive games and earning Conference USA All-Conference Honorable Mentions in 2016 and 2017. After going undrafted in the 2019 NFL Draft, Calvin Anderson signed with the New England Patriots.
