Clayton Tune (born March 23, 1999) is an American professional football quarterback. He played college football for the Houston Cougars and was selected by the Arizona Cardinals in the fifth round of the 2023 NFL Draft. Tune has since spent time with the Green Bay Packers and has competed at the professional level both in the NFL and in the United Football League.
Early Life and Background
Clayton Tune was born on March 23, 1999, in Plano, Texas, and grew up in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. He attended Hebron High School in Carrollton, Texas, where he developed into one of the most productive quarterbacks in the school’s history. During his high school career, Tune amassed 6,686 passing yards with 66 passing touchdowns, and he added 1,074 rushing yards and 20 rushing touchdowns with his legs.
His performance at Hebron drew attention from college recruiters across the region. Tune originally committed to the University of Kansas to play college football, but he later changed his commitment to the University of Houston, a program that would offer him the chance to compete at a higher level. After enrolling at the University of Houston in 2018, Tune quickly worked his way into the Cougars’ quarterback rotation. As a freshman, he appeared in five games and made two starts while serving as a backup to starter D’Eriq King, including the final two games of the season in place of an injured King. In 2019, Tune again began the year as the backup to King, but he took over as the starter after King opted to sit out the remainder of the season. On November 5, 2023, following the benching of Joshua Dobbs, Tune made his first NFL start against the Cleveland Browns, finishing the game with 58 passing yards and two interceptions.
Across the 2023 season, Tune appeared in seven games and made one start, gaining valuable NFL experience. He remained with the Cardinals through the 2024 campaign before being waived on August 25, 2025.
Green Bay Packers Era (2025)
Two days after his release from Arizona, Tune signed with the Green Bay Packers’ practice squad on August 27, 2025.
