Early Life and Background

Dmitry Kulikov was born on 29 October 1990 in Lipetsk, Russian SFSR, Soviet Union. Growing up in a country with a rich hockey tradition, Kulikov was exposed to the sport from a young age. During his lone season with Drummondville, Kulikov led all QMJHL defencemen with 62 points in 57 games, earning several accolades including the Emile Bouchard Trophy as the QMJHL Defenceman of the Year and the Mike Bossy Trophy as the League’s top professional prospect. Early Career (2009–2014)

After his successful junior career, Dmitry Kulikov was drafted by the Florida Panthers 14th overall in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. He signed a professional contract with the Panthers on 29 September 2009. In his rookie season (2009–10), Kulikov played in 68 games, showcasing his skills and earning high expectations from the Panthers organization. On 18 July 2014, he signed a three-year contract extension worth $13 million, solidifying his position with the team.

Breakthrough (2015–2020)

Kulikov’s career took a turn when he was traded to the Buffalo Sabres on 25 June 2016. His time with the Sabres was marred by injuries, limiting his effectiveness. After a challenging stint, he signed with the Winnipeg Jets on 1 July 2017. Following his contract with the Jets, he played for the New Jersey Devils, Edmonton Oilers, and Minnesota Wild, showcasing his defensive skills. On 31 August 2022, he was traded to the Anaheim Ducks, and later to the Pittsburgh Penguins on 3 March 2023.
