Jarran Kentrel Reed is an American professional football defensive tackle for the Seattle Seahawks of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the East Mississippi Lions and Alabama Crimson Tide, and was selected by the Seahawks in the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft. He also played one season each for the Kansas City Chiefs and Green Bay Packers.

Early Life and Background

Jarran Kentrel Reed was born on December 16, 1992, in Goldsboro, North Carolina. He attended Goldsboro High School, where he graduated in 2011. Due to poor academic performance, Reed attended Hargrave Military Academy for a year after high school to improve his grades. This experience helped him refocus on his education and athletic career. After his time at Hargrave, Reed went on to play college football, starting at East Mississippi Community College before transferring to the University of Alabama.

Path to American Football

Reed began his collegiate career at East Mississippi Community College in 2012, where he quickly made a name for himself. He contributed significantly to the team’s success, helping them win the NJCAA national championship in 2013. During his two years at East Mississippi, he recorded 100 career tackles, including 10.5 tackles for loss. In 2014, he transferred to the University of Alabama, where he played for the Crimson Tide. In his first year at Alabama, Reed played in all 14 games, making 13 starts and recording 55 tackles and one sack. He returned for his senior year in 2015, contributing to Alabama’s national championship victory while recording 57 tackles and another sack.

Jarran Reed was selected by the Seattle Seahawks in the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft, being the 49th overall pick. He signed a four-year contract worth $4.889 million, including a $1.756 million signing bonus. In his rookie season, Reed played in 15 games, finishing with 34 tackles, 1.5 sacks, and three passes defended. His performance improved in his second season, where he recorded 45 tackles and 1.5 sacks. Reed had a breakout year in 2018, achieving a career-high of 10.5 sacks, showcasing his potential as a defensive tackle.

Breakthrough (2021-2022)

After a successful stint with the Seahawks, Reed signed a one-year contract with the Kansas City Chiefs in March 2021. He started all 17 games that season, recording 43 tackles, 2.5 sacks, and two forced fumbles. Following his time with the Chiefs, Reed signed a one-year deal with the Green Bay Packers in March 2022, where he continued to demonstrate his skills on the field.
