Jarred Michael Tinordi (born February 20, 1992) is an American professional ice hockey defenseman who is currently playing for the Syracuse Crunch of the American Hockey League (AHL). Standing 6 feet 6 inches tall and weighing around 230 pounds, he is recognized as a towering stay-at-home blueliner who has spent more than a decade moving between the National Hockey League and the AHL. Tinordi was selected 22nd overall by the Montreal Canadiens in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft and was also chosen by Metallurg Magnitogorsk in the 2010 KHL Junior Draft.
Early Life and Background
Jarred Michael Tinordi was born on February 20, 1992, in Burnsville, Minnesota, where his father Mark was a member and captain of the Minnesota North Stars. After the franchise relocated and became the Dallas Stars, the family briefly lived in Plano, Texas, before eventually settling in Millersville, Maryland, a Washington, D.C., suburb, when Mark was traded to the Washington Capitals. Growing up around the sport because of his father’s career gave Tinordi early and constant exposure to professional hockey culture.
In his youth, Tinordi played in the 2004 Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament as a member of the Washington Little Capitals minor ice hockey team. He attended Severna Park Middle School, where he played one season, and later served as captain of the USA Hockey National Team Development Program. He also attended Ann Arbor Pioneer High School, continuing to develop as a top defensive prospect in the American amateur system.
Path to Hockey
Tinordi’s progress through American youth hockey positioned him as a highly regarded prospect heading into his draft year. After being selected 22nd overall by the Montreal Canadiens in 2010, he initially committed to the University of Notre Dame Fighting Irish of the Central Collegiate Hockey Association. On August 10, 2010, however, it was announced that he would instead play for the London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League for the 2010–11 season, choosing to forgo his NCAA eligibility in favor of major-junior competition.
He developed into a steady, physical defenseman with the Knights before turning professional. His selection to the United States men’s national junior ice hockey team for the 2012 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships underscored his standing among the top American defensive prospects of his age group and helped set the stage for his transition to the professional ranks.

The debut marked the arrival of the big defenseman on hockey’s biggest stage.
Over the following seasons he continued to split time between Montreal and the AHL, refining his game as a physical, defensive presence. In the 2015–16 season, no longer waiver-exempt, Tinordi made the Canadiens roster out of training camp, although limited playing time led to a conditioning stint with the Canadiens’ new AHL affiliate, the St. John’s IceCaps.

Tinordi’s breakthrough into the NHL came with the Canadiens, the team that drafted him. His first NHL appearance and point in 2013 announced his arrival, and he spent parts of three seasons within the organization. Although his time in the NHL was limited at first, he was viewed as a long-term piece of Montreal’s defensive plans during this stretch.

The Arizona Coyotes expressed full support for both the program and the player.
Upon serving his suspension, Tinordi was placed on waivers by the Coyotes and assigned to the Tucson Roadrunners, the team’s AHL affiliate. He scored the first Roadrunners goal in their home debut on October 28 and went on to appear in 64 games during the 2016–17 season, registering 11 points.
