Nico Sturm is a German professional ice hockey forward for the Minnesota Wild of the National Hockey League (NHL). He previously played for the Colorado Avalanche, San Jose Sharks, and Florida Panthers. Nico Sturm was born on May 3, 1995, in Augsburg, Germany. Growing up in Germany, he began his hockey career at a young age, playing for local youth teams. Sturm made his NHL debut with the Minnesota Wild on April 4, 2019, in a game against the Boston Bruins. He spent the majority of the 2019-2020 season with the Iowa Wild, the AHL affiliate of the Minnesota Wild, but earned a call-up to the NHL where he recorded his first two assists. His performance during the playoffs showcased his potential, scoring his first NHL goal in a playoff game against the Vancouver Canucks.
Breakthrough (2022–2025)
On March 15, 2022, Sturm was traded to the Colorado Avalanche, where he played a pivotal role in helping the team win the Stanley Cup on June 26, 2022. Following his success with the Avalanche, he signed a three-year contract with the San Jose Sharks on July 13, 2022.
