Nico Sturm is a German professional ice hockey forward for the Minnesota Wild of the National Hockey League (NHL). He previously played for the Colorado Avalanche, San Jose Sharks, and Florida Panthers. Sturm made his NHL debut in 2019 with the Wild and won the Stanley Cup with the Avalanche in 2022 and the Panthers in 2025. Internationally, Sturm has played for the German national team and won a silver medal at the 2023 World Championships.

Nico Sturm was born on May 3, 1995, in Augsburg, Germany. Growing up in Germany, he began his hockey career at a young age, playing for local youth teams. His early exposure to the sport laid the foundation for his future success. Sturm played for ESV Kaufbeuren in the German Development League from 2011 to 2014, where he honed his skills and developed a passion for the game.
Path to Hockey
In pursuit of further development, Sturm moved to North America to continue his hockey career. He played in the North American Hockey League with the Corpus Christi IceRays and the Austin Bruins. His talent was recognized when he was selected by the Tri-City Storm in the 2015 USHL Entry Draft. Sturm signed with the Storm and committed to play collegiate hockey at Clarkson University, where he continued to excel on the ice.

Early Career (2019–2021)
Sturm made his NHL debut with the Minnesota Wild on April 4, 2019, in a game against the Boston Bruins. He spent the majority of the 2019-2020 season with the Iowa Wild, the AHL affiliate of the Minnesota Wild, but earned a call-up to the NHL where he recorded his first two assists. His performance during the playoffs showcased his potential, scoring his first NHL goal in a playoff game against the Vancouver Canucks.
Breakthrough (2022–2025)
On March 15, 2022, Sturm was traded to the Colorado Avalanche, where he played a pivotal role in helping the team win the Stanley Cup on June 26, 2022. Following his success with the Avalanche, he signed a three-year contract with the San Jose Sharks on July 13, 2022. During the 2024-2025 season, Sturm was traded to the Florida Panthers, where he contributed to the team’s success, culminating in another Stanley Cup victory in 2025.
