Harrison Foster Phillips is an American professional football nose tackle for the New York Jets of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the Stanford Cardinal from 2014 to 2017, earning distinction as a First-team All-Pac-12 player in 2017. Phillips was drafted in the third round of the 2018 NFL Draft by the Buffalo Bills, where he began his professional career. After stints with the Bills and the Minnesota Vikings, Phillips was traded to the Jets in 2025.

Early Life and Background

Harrison Phillips was born on January 25, 1996, in Omaha, Nebraska. He attended Millard West High School in Omaha, where he excelled in football. As a senior, he was recognized as the Nebraska Gatorade Football Player of the Year, showcasing his talent and potential at an early age. During his high school career, Phillips accumulated over 175 tackles, 35 sacks, and 75 tackles-for-loss, which laid a strong foundation for his future in football. Following high school, he committed to Stanford University to play college football.

Path to American Football

At Stanford University, Harrison Phillips played college football from 2014 to 2017. His college career was marked by a significant setback when he tore his ACL during his sophomore year, limiting him to just one game. However, he made a strong comeback in 2017, leading all linemen in the Football Bowl Subdivision with 103 tackles. His outstanding performance earned him First-team All-Pac-12 honors and recognition on the Pac-12 All-Academic First-team. After graduating in December 2017 with a double major in Sociology and Science, Technology and Society, and a minor in Education, Phillips decided to forgo his final year of eligibility and enter the 2018 NFL Draft.

Early Career (2018-2021)

Harrison Phillips was selected by the Buffalo Bills in the third round of the 2018 NFL Draft, being the 96th overall pick. He signed a four-year contract with the team and played a reserve role during his rookie season, alternating snaps with other defensive tackles. In his second year, he recorded his first career sack against the New York Giants, but unfortunately suffered a torn ACL that sidelined him for the remainder of the season.

Breakthrough (2022-2024)

After recovering from his injury, Phillips signed a three-year contract with the Minnesota Vikings in March 2022. He made an immediate impact, starting all 17 games in his first season with the team and recording 59 tackles and 1.5 sacks. His performance continued to improve, as he set career-highs in 2023 with 92 tackles and three sacks. On September 10, 2024, he signed a two-year extension with the Vikings, securing his position with the team through the 2026 season.
