He was raised in the north-west Sydney suburb of Castle Hill by his mother, Cahla, an Australian, and his father, Delmas, an American-born basketball player. Both parents met while playing semi-professional basketball in Australia, and that environment shaped Green’s early life.
Green began playing basketball at the age of five when his mother started coaching him, and he played local basketball for the Hills Hornets. He was a multi-sport athlete as a child, excelling in Australian rules football, athletics, basketball, rugby, soccer, and swimming. By the age of 10, he had been selected to represent New South Wales in nine separate sports. As a young footballer, he played for the Westbrook Bulldogs and joined the Greater Western Sydney Giants’ academy at 13, though he left the sport when his family relocated to Phoenix, Arizona, in November 2014.
Path to Basketball
Green’s path to elite basketball began in Sydney at The King’s School in Parramatta, where he dominated the local scene and represented New South Wales’ under-16 state team at 13. After the family moved to the United States, he enrolled at Mountain Ridge High School in Glendale, Arizona, in 2015 before transferring to Hillcrest Prep in Phoenix. In 2017, he moved again to IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, where he became a five-star prospect and a consensus top recruit in the 2019 class.
In the final game of his high school career, Green led IMG Academy to a national championship with a 65–55 win over La Lumiere and was named MVP of the championship game. He was later selected for the 2019 McDonald’s All-American Boys Game. On 4 October 2018, Green committed to the Arizona Wildcats over Kansas, North Carolina, Villanova, USC, and UNLV, and signed his National Letter of Intent the same month.
